Happy Bastille Day

Yesterday, as many may not know, was the French National Day which is celebrated on the 14th of July of every year. It marks the storming of the Bastille by the people of Paris which is a historical and symbolic event for the French population. It is considered a turning point in the French revolution. France holds the oldest and longest military parade on this day on the Champs-Élysées in Paris in front of the President of the Republic and other officials and foreign guests.

After living here in Paris for a year now, luckily, I got the chance to learn about this day and celebrate it. Paris as the capital of France holds a tremendous celebration all over the city with mind-blowing fireworks and decorations along the central avenues on this day. I went with my friends to Parc de Champ de Mars which is located in front of the Eiffel Tower. The national anthem was played throughout celebrations. It was composed in Strasbourg in April 1792 by Rouget de Lisle as the ''War song for the Army of the Rhine''. The words and music of this anthem soon spread across the country (reaching Paris by the end of July) and its reputation took off with the arrival in the capital at the same moment of volunteers from Marseille, who gave their name to it.

In this article, I decided to share a piece of small information about this day and some pictures from yesterday's celebration:
